Thought Leadership from the Leaders in Virtual Accounting and Bookkeeping Services

AccountingDepartment.com Reveals All on Business Podcast

AccountingDepartment.com’s co-founder Dennis Najjar, CPA, recently appeared on The Giant Robots Smashing into Other Giant Robots podcast, a weekly technical podcast produced by ThoughtBot.

On the 30-minute show, host Ben Orenstein grills Najjar about the tools of his trade, AccountingDepartment.com’s “typical” clients, and what Najjar’s duties entail when he’s not sitting on the beach letting AccountingDepartment.com’s 50-plus trained and qualified bookkeepers generate revenue for the business.

“Sometimes I wonder what I do in my 12-hour days,” Najjar tells Orenstein, just one of many tongue-in-cheek quips during the interview. “The work gets done; that’s the key.”

Everything You Need to Know About Choosing a Virtual Accounting Service in 30 Minutes

AccountingDepartment.com was honored that ThoughtBot, a software and app development firm with locations in Boston, San Francisco, Boulder, and Stockholm, selected us to speak on the podcast.

The podcast with the cryptic-but-cool title typically focuses on software development and other “tech” topics. But one thing all technology businesses share is a need for bookkeeping and accounting services.

During the podcast, listeners learn:

  • About the processes and procedures AccountingDepartment.com has in place to provide businesses stress-free accounting services
  • How checks and balances in accounting services help prevent fraud
  • Why it makes sense to outsource bookkeeping and accounting as a business grows

Why Are Accountants the Historians of the Business World?
Najjar couldn’t share any exciting “stories from the trenches,” but did reveal portions of the five-year business plan for AccountingDepartment.com, which includes hiring an additional 150 full-charge bookkeepers to bring the company’s employee pool up to 200. Of course, they have an HR director to manage that, leaving Najjar with more time to relax on the beach.

Najjar admitted that his life as co-owner of the leading firm for virtual accounting services is “boring,” but he has no intention to step away from it anytime soon. “This is the kind of business you can do forever,” he told Orenstein.

Finally, he summarized the accounting professional’s crucial-but-boring role as a “historian” of the business world. “Our job is to capture and record, accurately, the history of a company, so the MBAs, the CEOs and the owners can use that information to look into the future and make the right decisions.”
